HE BELL, according to spiritual writers, is the very voice of God. When a monk hears the bell, he stops whatever he’s doing and immediately goes to prayer. It is the voice of God calling us to pray, calling us to avoid sin, calling us forget the things of this world and think of Him. In the medieval times—before everyone could look at an “iPhone” to see what time it was—the bells were a special reminder that life is short but eternity is long! We were privileged to have one of the Auxiliary Bishops of Los Angeles (Most Rev’d Alejandro D. Aclan) come to bless our new bell:
