HAT SETS APART the Brébeuf Hymnal is its Catholic structure. It does not mimic or “build upon” Protestant collections. It is a Roman Catholic hymnal, and the core of the book consists of the authentic Catholic hymns. The editors, however, did not completely exclude Protestant hymnody—and those who look carefully will discover a few selections written by non-Catholics.
