VID READERS may already be familiar with Oreste Ravanellos’ marvellous Three Part Motets. These pieces are great for a small choir, or for a gentle introduction to more complex pieces.
But Ravanello did not only help choirs getting started. He also published booklets of easy organ music for use at Mass and Benediction. Manuals only, no pedals required.
* * Sei Pezzetti Facili – Interludio, my favorite the Preludio a Canone, Offertorio, Elevazione, Pastorale and Finale.
* * Sei Pezzetti Facili, Opus 67. – Preludio, Pensiero religioso, Elegia, Interludio, Salve Regina and O Radix Jesse.
Sei Pezzetti Facili translates as Six Easy Little Pieces.
For a much bigger and largely easier collection of organ music, there’s another Italian from a few centuries earlier, Giovanni Battista Fasolo: A Collection of Organ Music from 1645.
