ADALYN Murray O’Hair—who self-identified as an Atheist—got her five minutes of fame by means of a Lawsuit which led to a landmark Supreme Court ruling ending official Bible-reading in American public schools in 1963.
In the following clip she went on National Television ill-prepared. The host doesn’t let her off the hook, and insists on knowing whether she can quote accurately the First Amendment:
Like so many television personalities, William F. Buckley Jr. was “hit or miss”—but in my opinion his wit is very much in evidence in this clip, especially where he exclaims: “I’m trying to take you seriously, and I shall work on it.”
