O MICROPHONE can accurately capture the luscious sound of pure voices blending together. That’s a fact I’ve learned over many years of trying; but the results always fall short. I’m always astounded to hear recordings by—to mention just one example—Dr. Tappan’s SCHOLA because I know how incredibly difficult this is!
On the other hand, I did want to demonstrate the progress made by our volunteer choir, so last Sunday I stuck an iPhone in my back pocket as I was conducting. You can faintly hear the thurible “clinks” in the background as the priest incenses the Altar.

This choir is 100% volunteers, and many don’t read music. They sound nicer each Sunday. We sing for Masses at FSSP.la, which is the new Apostolate in Los Angeles run by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter.
