HE FOLLOWING EXCERPT was taken from a 1971 appearance by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen on “Firing Line”—a famous television show which ran from 1966–1999—with William F. Buckley:
In his Confessions, Saint Augustine used the example of stealing an apple to represent all his youthful sins—that is, if I remember correctly. I like when St. Augustine talks about the human mind. When the brain forgets something, it cannot recall what it forgot—but it knows what it’s NOT.
