ODAY’S PAINTING is by Jose Gallegos y Arnosa. He was a Spanish painter who particularly excelled at representing the flash of sumptuous fabric against dark interiors.
I particularly like his painting, “The Choirboys” because it captures the matter-of-fact obliviousness that young altarboys frequently display. Also, I love the brushwork he used in depicting the banner and inlay work along the top of the painting. Click on the image to view it larger.
