DAM RAHA is a Roman Catholic father of eight children. He’s been married for 22 years, and together with his wife has embraced the role of being the first and most important teachers for their children, choosing to homeschool them to foster a love of learning for learning’s sake and allowing them to wonder, under the patronage of Pope Saint John Paul II. As the parish manager at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Muskegon, Michigan, their parish is a second home. While his educational background in secondary education is from a public university, he finds greater value in his appreciation for the classics, the works of the saints, and praying sacred scripture, holding more value to him than formal credentials. Quote: “The only letters I’ll ever desire after my name are the initials of my children.”
Adam and his family live a life close to nature, allowing their children to swim in rivers, climb trees, and spend ample time on trails in the woods. They enjoy hunting and fishing, and often find themselves immersed in the beauty of the natural world. He and his family are aficionados of culture, integrated humanity, making an attempt of doing John Senior’s “Idea of a School” a reality at home, the philosophy of the mystics, bluegrass music, and the joy of porch sitting, or “leisure,” as Josef Pieper so aptly described it.
